Pain At The Pump Easing Up

The average price for a gallon of gasoline in South Dakota is around $3.30. But, most people looking for the best deals are buying the ethanol-enhanced gasoline, which in some places the price has sunk below the $3 mark.
No one enjoys watching the prices at the pump climb higher and higher, but a dip in cost has some people looking up.
“I can't remember the last time it was under three dollars. You kind of just got used to paying the high prices,” said Karl Odegard.
While the prices today may seem low, the average for regular last year was almost fifty cents lower.
“Well, one year ago we were at $2.92 and it's been a long time, most of this year we've tracked three dollars and well above that,” said Mark Madeja with AAA of South Dakota.
But, the big question is, will the price of topping off your tank stay low?
“If the price continues to follow supply and demand, consumers should expect these prices to stay at these levels or even decrease a little bit more,” said Madeja.
While some gas stations offer sub-$3 prices, other prices at other stations don’t even come close.
“Around town people will see different prices at different gas stations. A lot of that truly has to do with when the retailers bought that product and when he can pass on a lower price,” said Madeja.
Savvy shoppers have been searching for the best deal.
“When I was driving by here the other day I thought, ‘that’s pretty cheap.’ But when I saw it when I was pulling in here and it was under three dollars, I was really surprised,” said Odegard.
Gas prices are on the decline and for now it appears the relief at the pump will stick around.
