Three St. Lucie County sheriff’s detectives get ‘flex fuel’ cars to drive
Sheriff Ken Mascara announced Tuesday he has added three cars with fuel flexibility to his fleet as part of a trade-in.
Mascara said the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office bought three Ford Fusion “flex fuel” cars for the detectives. The Sheriff’s Office traded in two high-mileage vehicles to help pay for the new Fords, Mascara said.
“These cars can run on ethanol or regular auto gas, which will save taxpayer dollars over the life of these cars,” Mascara said. “We are always looking for ways to be more efficient and effective in a period of economic decline.”
The Sheriff’s Office also used the proceeds from a seized Land Rover as part of the acquisition. The Sheriff’s Office seized the vehicle one year ago in a drug investigation involving the 29th Street Gang.
